Clinical background

A physician shaped by complex lives.

Dr. Novikov’s clinical background includes extensive work in hospital-based psychiatry, where mental health symptoms often intersect with medical illness, medications, hormones, sleep, pain, relationships, and major changes in a person’s life.

Her training in adult psychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry taught her to approach each patient with both psychiatric depth and medical curiosity. She looks beyond a single symptom or diagnosis to understand the larger pattern: personal history, biology, physical health, relationships, identity, and the circumstances in which symptoms developed.

Dr. Novikov has a particular interest in women’s mental health across the lifespan, including PMDD, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, perimenopause, hormonal transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and the psychological effects of medical illness.

Her ongoing education in functional and precision psychiatry expands this framework to include metabolic health, sleep, nutrition, medication response, pharmacogenomics, and other factors that may influence mental well-being.

Personal perspective

Care informed by medicine and lived experience.

Dr. Novikov’s perspective is also shaped by her experience as an immigrant, a woman, a physician, and a mother. These roles have deepened her appreciation for the ways culture, family expectations, identity, caregiving, and major transitions affect mental health.

She understands how difficult it can be to feel reduced to a diagnosis or to move through a fragmented medical system without feeling fully heard. Her goal is to create a different kind of clinical relationship: careful, collaborative, direct, and grounded in respect for the whole person.

Treatment begins with a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s story. Dr. Novikov works collaboratively with patients to develop plans that are individualized, medically informed, and realistic for their lives.
